There are multiple ways to apply for Assistance:

  • To apply online for Food (SNAP), Health Care (Medicaid), Child Care Assistance, Cash Assistance (TANF), Heating and Cooling Assistance go to CommonHelp.
  • To apply by phone for Food (SNAP), Health Care (Medicaid), Cash Assistance (TANF), Heating and Cooling Assistance, and Auxiliary Grants, dial toll free 855-635-4370.

To Request Support or to Report Abuse/Neglect


Anyone may report suspected child maltreatment during normal business hours to Scott County Department of Social Services by calling (276) 386-3631. In addition, a report may be made by calling the statewide Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at (800) 552-7096
