PUBLIC COMMENT

Mr. Childers presented his opposition to having 16 voting precincts in the

county. The county also need to prepare for more vocational jobs and education.

Frank Kilgore presented a plan to partner the Brenda Smith Dairy Farm

with a creamery company to locate in Russell County. Mr. Kilgore asked the IDA

to pass a resolution supporting the CRSPI project.

Upon motion made by Roger Sword, second by Richard Lockridge, and duly

approved by the Industrial Development Authority of Russell County, Virginia to

approve the following resolution.

RESOLUTION OF THE INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF RUSSELL COUNTY, VIRGINIA

WHEREAS, Clinch River Sustainable Products Institute, Inc. (CRSPI) has presented to

the Industrial Development Authority of Russell County, Virginia (the “Authority”) its

documentation to engage in the creation of a non-profit incubator for sustainable dairy

County, Virginia; and

WHEREAS, CRISPI has requested a resolution of support from the Authority for

CRISPI’s application for said VCEDA grant.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Industrial Development Authority of

Russell County, Virginia, hereby confirms its support of the Clinch River Sustainable

Products Institute’s application for a VCEDA seed grant of $15,000.

This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.

not qualify for current funding avenues.

Sam Wolford presented Genedge’s vision to help Virginia industries

innovate, compete and grow their bottom line. Genedge provides many types of

consulting services to Virginia industries.

LeAnn Francis, with Holiday Inn, presented the reorganization of the motel

management. The motel’s financial status has improved and a plan on payment

restructuring is forthcoming.

Southwest Virginia Agriculture Summit

Southwest Virginia Community College in partnership with the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority will host a regional

agriculture summit on Wednesday, October 25 from 8:30 to noon at the Charles King Community Center. The purpose of the gathering will be

to announce the findings of the Virginia Tech Office of Economic Development strategic planning study for agricultural economic development

opportunities in the region.

The summit will be open to local and regional agricultural stakeholders, including farmers, landowners, capital investors and funding providers,

economic development specialists and educators. In addition to the presentation of the Virginia Tech analysis, a final round of data collection

based upon round table discussions during the event will be captured to complete the Virginia Tech study.

The study is the result of a VCEDA commission to the Virginia Tech Office of Economic Development to help develop an agricultural strategic plan

for the region. The purpose of the study is to assist in identifying opportunities for further economic and workforce development and job

creation within the agriculture industry in the region.
