7.0 DROUGHT RESPONSE AND CONTINGENCY PLANS

The Local and Regional Water Supply Planning Regulation requires the Plan to develop a

Drought Response and Contingency Plan (9 VAC 25-780-120) for community water

systems and self-supplied users who withdraw more than an average of 300,000 gallons

per month of water. The Drought Response and Contingency Plan addresses the unique

characteristics of the water source being utilized and the nature of the beneficial use of

water as well as following at least three graduated stages of responses to the onset of

drought conditions as required by the regulation. In addition, the Drought Response and

Contingency Plan includes local ordinances adopted by each locality describing the

procedures for the implementation and enforcement of the Drought Response and

Contingency Plan. A copy of the Drought Response and Contingency Plan for the region

is included in Appendix X.
